Lexus celebrates 20 years of hybrids

Over the past 20 years, Lexus has pioneered hybrid technology, starting with the Lexus RX 400h in 2005 – the world’s first premium hybrid SUV. Lexus expanded hybrids across nearly all segments, from sedans to SUVs, achieving over 3.3 million sales. Breakthroughs include the Lexus LS 600h, the first hybrid with a V8, and the Lexus LC 500h featuring a Multi Stage Hybrid System for sportier performance. Later generations improved efficiency, battery technology, and driving dynamics, with lithium-ion and bipolar batteries replacing NiMH units.
The latest sixth-generation hybrid debuts in the Lexus ES 300h, offering 201 HP, enhanced comfort, and – for the first time in Europe – optional E-FOUR all-wheel drive, underscoring Lexus’s leadership in cost-effective, reliable hybrid mobility.
