For Alicja Węgorzewska, director of the Warsaw Chamber Opera, superstitions like Friday the 13th hold no weight. The renowned opera singer believes that we control our fate.
“Believing in superstitions means letting strange ideas control us. Educated people shouldn’t fall for such beliefs. We don’t give power to things like black cats or tarot cards. Our awareness is our strength,” she said.
While rejecting superstitions, Węgorzewska acknowledged that artists have their traditions.
“We joke and wish each other ‘break a leg’ before performing, but that’s just for fun,” she added.
“If sheet music falls, I step on it before picking it up. It’s a tradition I’ve kept since the start of my career,” she also shared a personal tradition.
