Poles have become the second-largest group of EU tourists visiting Madeira, surpassed only by Germans. Interest from Poland continues to grow each year, driven by the island’s mild climate and strong offer of active tourism. In November 2025 alone, more than 12,400 Polish tourists arrived, up 7.2% y/y, confirming their importance to the local tourism industry. Germans remained the largest foreign group, while total arrivals reached nearly 175,000 visitors.
Poles typically fly to Funchal from Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Katowice, mainly using low-cost carriers. Increasingly, they also explore Porto Santo, and some arrive from other European countries, especially the UK. Overall, Madeira attracts over 2 million foreign visitors annually.
