Łódź wants to build its own Silicon Valley, chips instead of textiles
Representatives of the city of Łódź, the regional government, the Łódź Special Economic Zone, and Lodz University of Technology signed a letter of intent to cooperate on developing the semiconductor sector in Central Poland. A key goal is the creation of a specialized technology park dedicated to the industry. Around 100 companies in the region already operate in semiconductors and electronics.
Government officials emphasized that semiconductor production is vital for economic security and technological sovereignty, with support planned at the national level. Central Poland, particularly the Bełchatów area undergoing energy transition, was highlighted as a strong candidate due to its industrial infrastructure and skilled workforce. Authorities stressed the need for education, investment, and regional cooperation to build a competitive semiconductor manufacturing base.
