More than 60% of construction sites in Poland experience theft at least once a year

A new report on crime in Poland’s construction sector shows that over 60% of building sites experience theft at least once a year, leading to delays, higher costs, and reduced worker morale. According to the “Invisible Threats: Construction Crime Index 2024” by BauWatch, 64% of respondents witnessed theft annually, while 30% of projects were delayed and 15% suspended entirely. Losses can raise project costs by 10–50%, with 42% of thefts committed by insiders such as employees or subcontractors. The issue also undermines workforce morale—31% of staff fear losing tools, affecting productivity and retention.
Traditional security measures, like fences or CCTV, often prove insufficient. Instead, modern AI-based monitoring systems and mobile surveillance towers are recommended as cost-effective solutions that detect suspicious events in real time.
