Most indebted companies are in Sosnowiec, Dąbrowa Górnicza and Krosno districts
Sosnowiec ranks as Poland’s most indebted city with county rights, according to the National Debt Register. Nearly 15% of local businesses have overdue liabilities, totaling PLN 8.06 mln per 1,000 companies, with an average debt of PLN 54,700 per debtor. Dąbrowa Górnicza ranks second, followed by Krosno, while half of the most indebted cities are in Silesia. The region’s difficulties reflect its dependence on energy-intensive industries affected by high energy costs, inflation, and interest rates.
Among rural counties, Lipsko has the highest average debt per debtor at nearly PLN 140,000. Zamość records the lowest business debt among cities, while Lesko County performs best among rural counties.
