Most Poles live month-to-month

While 49% break even each month, 17% sometimes run out of money, and 5% must borrow or dip into reserves.

“The biggest challenge isn’t a lack of awareness, but limited income,” said Mariola Kondek-Pasztetnik, Sales Development Manager at Santander Consumer Bank. Seniors are most likely to spend their full income on essentials, while 22% of those in their twenties run short monthly. Those in their forties are most likely to save (34%), thanks to career and salary growth.

The study also found that 61% of respondents are financially self-sufficient, with seniors leading (88%). However, 20% sometimes rely on family—especially those under 30—and 7% borrow regularly. The survey covered 1,000 adults in April 2025.
