NCBR Director Found Dead After Refusing External Pressure
Maciej Grzegorzewski, the director of the Project Control Department at the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), was found dead on June 25 in a backwater of the Vistula River near Józefów. He had been missing since June 22, triggering a search supported by police, fire services, and Territorial Defence troops
Colleagues describe Grzegorzewski as a principled and meticulous manager who "did not yield to external pressure" but felt unsupported in his role. He was responsible for ensuring the proper utilization and auditing of EU-funded research projects at NCBR. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through Poland's scientific and research community.
The prosecutor’s office and police are conducting investigations and have preliminarily ruled out third-party involvement. NCBR has publicly mourned his passing on social media, with many colleagues paying tribute to his integrity and dedication.
