New bill in Sejm to put a cap on gas prices for households
Poland’s Energy Ministry has proposed a temporary 2027 cap on natural gas prices for households and entities providing essential public services. The maximum rate would be based on the 2026 tariff approved by the Energy Regulatory Office, limiting consumers’ exposure to wholesale market increases. Gas suppliers applying the cap would receive state compensation for resulting financial losses.
The proposal cites Middle East conflict and potential LNG shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz. In early October, Dutch TTF prices averaged about EUR 85 per MWh, more than double their pre-crisis level, while futures pointed to continued market tightness. The government is expected to consider the bill in Q4 2026; the measure has not yet been adopted.
