NIK claims government overestimated public finances by PLN 78 bln
A dispute between Poland’s Supreme Audit Office, NIK, and the Ministry of Finance over the 2025 state budget has reached parliament. NIK claims the government weakened the stabilizing expenditure rule, overstated the spending limit by PLN 77.7 bln and pushed some spending outside the state budget. It also says the amount calculated under the rule was inflated by PLN 84.5 bln, partly due to defense-related advances, treasury securities and other items. The Ministry of Finance rejects the accusations, arguing that all calculations were made in line with the law and that the disagreement concerns interpretation.
Economists warn the dispute raises broader concerns about fiscal discipline, public debt, market confidence and future tax or spending pressures.
