Hourly labor costs in 28 European Union countries increased by an average of 3.1% in the second quarter of this year, compared to the same period a year ago, according to Eurostat. In Poland, labor costs increased 2.5 times faster in Q2 than the EU average – by 7.8%. Poland is thus in the group of countries with the highest labor cost increases. However, it is not the leader in this category as the largest Q2 increases in the EU were recorded in Romania (12.4%), Bulgaria (11%) and Hungary (10%).

The smallest increases were recorded in Portugal (0.9%) and Malta (1.1%). Labor costs include remuneration and non-wage labor costs. The former increased by 3.1% throughout the EU, while the latter grew by 3%. In Poland, salaries went up by 7.2% and non-wage costs increased by 10.3%.
