Orlen announces largest gas heat recovery system in Europe to be built in EC Żerań

Orlen Termika has announced a tender for Europe’s largest flue gas condensation and heat pump system, to be built at Warsaw’s Żerań Combined Heat and Power Plant. The project will recover nearly 145 MWt of thermal power, reducing CO₂ emissions by about 137,000 tons and natural gas use by 33 million m³ annually. Commissioning is planned for Q4 2029. The recovered heat will be used to warm district heating water, classifying it as waste heat under efficiency regulations. The project is part of the largest modernization in Żerań’s history, alongside a massive heat accumulator due in 2027.
Orlen Termika aims to fully phase out coal by 2035, advancing Poland’s energy decarbonization strategy.
