Pellet subsidies increase by 52%, but not everyone will receive support
Pellet prices in Poland have risen 52% y/y, prompting the Human Rights Ombudsman to ask the government whether it plans support for households that switched to pellet boilers, including through public grants. A Polish Smog Alert estimate puts annual heating costs for a typical 150-square-meter home at PLN 12,852, excluding equipment costs, making pellets more expensive to use than gas or heat pumps.
Households in financial need may apply to local social welfare centers for discretionary assistance, but pellet-boiler users do not qualify for the 2026 heating voucher, and the former PLN 3,000 pellet benefit is no longer available. UOKiK attributes price increases to demand outpacing domestic supply, not collusion.
