Photos of apartments online are being edited by AI to boost sales
“Housefishing” is the use of heavily edited or AI-generated property photos that make a home look better than it is. Images may show larger windows, different furniture, removed flaws or features that do not exist. The misleading listings can attract more viewers, but the gap between photos and reality may cost sellers a deal and damage an agent’s reputation. To spot altered images, look for visual artifacts, distorted proportions and furniture that seems unusually large or small.
Be wary of interiors that look unnaturally sterile, especially in older buildings with no stated renovation. Checking these signs before arranging a viewing can help prospective buyers and renters avoid wasted time and disappointment.
