PKP cargo signs with Korean firm to build rolling stock for army

A Polish freight operator has signed a non-binding letter of intent with Shung Shin Rolling Stock Technology (SSRST) to explore cooperation in manufacturing railcars, including those designed for transporting heavy military equipment.

Under the agreement, the Polish partner would use SSRST’s know-how to assemble and produce rolling stock based on its existing assets, with a potential production site at the PKP Szczecin Port Centralny rail hub. The parties are also considering establishing a special-purpose company in Poland to deliver the project.

They plan to jointly seek financing from institutions such as defense funds, export credit agencies, and Export-Import Bank of Korea. Final terms will be defined in future investment and financing agreements.
