PKP Intercity has announced on Tuesday a plan for the purchase of double-decker push-pull trains together with multi-system locomotives. Interested entities can submit applications to participate in the procedure until August 10.

The subject matter of the order is the delivery of 38 seven-car double-deck push-pull trains together with 45 multisystem locomotives and the provision of technical maintenance services for the locomotives.

Push-pull trains consist of a locomotive and carriages, where the last carriage can act as a control carriage. When the train is pulled by a locomotive, control is from the locomotive, and when the train is pushed by a locomotive, control is from the control car.

“The double-decker trains will be a novelty in our fleet and will allow us to efficiently serve passengers who travel between the largest Polish agglomerations to work or school. We are preparing for a steady increase in the number of travelers, and such a train will allow us to comfortably transport several hundred passengers at a time,” PKP Intercity CEO Marek Chraniuk mentions in the announcement.
