Play marks network milestone
Play has passed 13,000 base stations, a symbolic benchmark as the operator prepares to end national roaming and achieve full technological independence by year-end. The company has added 574 stations since January, with October its strongest month (80 new sites). Recent builds span major cities—Warsaw, Łódź, Gdańsk, Poznań, Kraków, Rzeszów—and tourist destinations including Puck, Kołobrzeg, and Bukowina Tatrzańska.
Beyond expansion, Play is modernising its existing infrastructure. In 2025 it will accelerate strategic upgrades, replacing 3G with 4G and 5G and activating the 700 MHz band to strengthen nationwide coverage.
CTO Michał Ziółkowski said the 13,000-site threshold reflects the operator’s “technological transformation” and readiness for a new era of independent network operation. Play’s exit from domestic roaming, a process begun in 2019, will be completed by the end of the year. The company, launched in 2007, now offers mobile, fibre internet, and TV services.
