On Thursday, Poland signed an agreement to purchase MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones from the U.S., marking a major step in establishing a dedicated drone force within its military. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that building this capability is a priority for Poland’s security strategy.
Starting January 1, 2024, the drone units will officially integrate into the Polish Armed Forces. These advanced drones, capable of reconnaissance and combat roles, can operate for over 20 hours and reach speeds of 480 km/h. Replacing older MQ-9A Reaper drones leased from the U.S., the new MQ-9Bs will be delivered by early 2027. The $310 million investment underscores Poland's commitment to cutting-edge defense technologies and its strategic alliance with the U.S.
