Poland and pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in dispute for PLN 6 bln
A legal battle between Pfizer and Poland begins on 21 January 2026 before a court in Brussels. Pfizer is seeking up to PLN 6 billion plus interest for COVID-19 vaccines that Poland refused to accept and pay for in 2022, arguing there was a massive oversupply and the doses would go unused. The dispute stems from an EU-wide 2021 procurement contract. Poland cites force majeure linked to the war in Ukraine and claims Pfizer did not incur actual production or delivery losses. Possible outcomes include a Polish court victory, a settlement, or partial or full defeat.
The case is linked to the broader EU investigation known as “Pfizergate.”
