Poland as top buyer of US military equipment in fiscal year 2022/23

In the fiscal year 2022/23, Poland led in placing the largest orders for American military equipment, according to data released by the US Department of State. The Polish orders amounted to over $31 billion. This procurement includes tanks, combat helicopters, technical security vehicles, and high-mobility rocket systems. The decision to allocate over 3% of Poland's GDP for defense spending was influenced by the war in Ukraine. The defense budget for 2024, awaiting President Andrzej Duda's signature, is set at PLN 118.1 billion, equivalent to 3.1% of the projected GDP. Notably, despite changes in government, there were minimal alterations to the defense budget prepared under the previous administration.
Foreign contracts for military equipment purchases will undergo audits, but there are no plans to cancel any orders placed with US suppliers.
