Even China has not recently increased exports to Germany as fast as Poland. Thanks to this, we jumped to the third place of the largest exporters to the market of our western neighbor. In the first quarter, we even surpassed the USA on the list of exporters to the German market, and even China with a year-on-year dynamics in March.
Export to Germany is currently the driving force of the Polish economy. As much as €6.2 billion in March and €16.6 billion in the first quarter of 2021 – this is how much Poland received from the sale of goods to that market, according to the data of the German statistical office Destatis. This is respectively by 28.7 percent and 14.7 percent more y/y.
On the other hand, this year, Germany reduced purchases from the USA, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. Thanks to this, we surpassed the USA in exports to Germany on a quarterly basis. Only by €79 million, but this is a comparison with the world's largest economic power and in terms of exports to the largest European market. We jumped to third place, behind China and the Netherlands.
The increase in the purchase of electrotechnical products by as much as €3.4 billion y/y (+10.5 percent) in the first quarter, cars by €1.6 billion (+ 5.8 percent) and precious stones and metals by €1.1 billion (+14.8 percent) had the greatest impact on the growth of German imports. As for imports from Poland, the bus and battery manufacturing industry could have had an impact here. Electric buses are currently a national export hit, and the production of batteries is breaking records.
