Poland expands municipal security fund after applications exceed initial budget
Polish municipalities submitted 205 loan applications totaling PLN 11.21 bln under the EU-funded Security and Defense Fund, more than double the original PLN 5.6 bln allocation. The government raised the total municipal pool to about PLN 12.3 bln and says all applications that pass verification should receive funding. A second municipal funding round is planned for the first quarter of 2027.
The loans carry 0% interest, with possible forgiveness of 20% for less affluent local governments or 40% for projects supporting military mobility along the Eastern Shield. Rail companies also applied for PLN 7.53 bln, against a PLN 2 bln allocation, and authorities are selecting projects.
