Poland fighting to build AI gigafactory with initial investment of €100 mln
Poland’s government has taken a key step toward hosting an AI gigafactory. The Permanent Committee of the Council of Ministers approved a resolution committing about EUR 100 mln in public funds to buy computing power from the facility in its first phase. A further EUR 400 mln may follow later. Poland wants to compete for a medium-sized EU AI gigafactory with at least 75,000 GPUs, an investment estimated at about EUR 3 bln.
The EU plans to build seven such facilities to support the development, training, and deployment of AI models. After a change in EU rules, business consortia, not governments, will bid for the projects, with states supporting demand through public purchases.
