Poland is among 12 EU Member States that missed the December 2023 deadline to implement the EU directive on credit servicers and credit purchasers. The European Commission has urged Poland, along with Italy, Spain, and Lithuania, to comply with the directive or face potential legal action from the Court of Justice of the EU.

Adopted in 2021, the directive aims to ensure credit servicers and purchasers operate across the EU with strong borrower protections, including fair and professional conduct. The EC's latest move involves issuing a reasoned opinion, giving these countries two months to address the issue before further proceedings are considered.
