Poland Seeks Billions Through EU Defense Loans
Poland plans to submit its request for more than EUR 6 billion in loans under the European Union’s SAFE defense financing program on Friday, October 30. Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak Czarnecka said Warsaw will also provide a report on progress in implementing supported projects. Poland has been allocated more than EUR 43 billion through the scheme and received an initial EUR 6.5 billion advance in May. The government expects most spending to benefit domestic defense manufacturers.
Poland’s Armament Agency has already signed 39 contracts and 12 amendments worth PLN 120 billion under SAFE, with Polish industry accounting for 99.5 percent of their value, according to the ministry. Cyber defense forces have separately concluded 16 agreements worth PLN 3.4 billion. The EU program offers EUR 150 billion in preferential loans to support defense investment, including collaborative procurement between participating countries.
