Poland’s armed forces now have more than 220,000 active-duty personnel, according to the Defense Ministry. About 75% are professional soldiers, more than 17% serve in the Territorial Defense Forces, and the remainder are mainly voluntary basic-service troops and active reservists. The government’s long-term goal is to build a force of about 500,000 people, including 250,000 operational troops, 50,000 territorial troops and 200,000 high-readiness reservists. Recruitment efforts include military education programs, short civilian training courses and voluntary service.

Polish troops are also engaged in domestic security operations and international missions under NATO, EU and UN frameworks, including deployments in Jordan, Lebanon, Romania, Latvia, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
