Polish central bank reaches gold target
The National Bank of Poland has accumulated 700 tonnes of gold, completing a reserve target set earlier this year. Governor Adam Glapiński announced the milestone during a Thursday press conference, placing the value of the bank’s holdings at approximately PLN 355.7 billion. The central bank estimates an unrealised gain of PLN 140.5 billion, representing the difference between its acquisition costs and current market valuations.
Glapiński said the increased reserves put Poland among the world’s ten largest official gold holders. Since he became governor, the bank’s gold stock has grown by 598 tonnes, nearly sevenfold. Gold holdings diversify central bank reserves over time, although their valuation can fluctuate substantially with international prices. The announcement comes as investors assess Poland’s currency, inflation outlook and financial resilience. The central bank has not presented the valuation gain as realised revenue available for government expenditure.
