Polish gas port breaking records, additional support will be necessary

Poland’s LNG terminal in Świnoujście is operating at record capacity in 2025, already handling 53 deliveries by late August, compared with 39 in the same period last year. Annual throughput is expected to reach around 80 shipments, surpassing the 2023 record of 62. The facility, expanded in January with a third LNG tank and higher regasification capacity (8.3 bcm annually, covering about 40% of national demand), now relies almost entirely on imports from the US (80%) and Qatar (20%). While the surge highlights Poland’s shift away from Russian gas, it also exposes capacity constraints.
To ensure security of supply and relieve pressure on Świnoujście, construction of a second LNG terminal (FSRU) in Gdańsk is underway.
