Polish government demands effective age verification of users
Poland’s digital affairs minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said government is demanding changes from digital platforms to improve children’s online safety. At a Friday meeting, he called for age verification, immediate removal of accounts belonging to children under 13, faster content moderation, and algorithms that do not amplify traumatic material. Between October 7 and 12, state institutions reported 89 items they considered illegal, but platforms removed only 30. Gawkowski said platforms agreed to shorten moderation times and warned that response times would be monitored and reported publicly.
X representatives skipped the meeting. Of 57 posts reported to X, it restricted or removed 20 and took no action on 37. Poland will begin Digital Services Act procedures against X once the law is signed.
