Polish government looking for alternatives to Microsoft
Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs is mapping local companies and organizations with expertise in open-source software, as part of efforts to reduce public administration’s reliance on paid proprietary tools, including Microsoft Office. The initiative will inform a planned pilot of open-source solutions in local governments, testing software, migration, training, security and ongoing support. The ministry is seeking providers for cloud services, office applications, email, videoconferencing and messaging, as well as specialists in licensing, architecture and cybersecurity.
Pilot participants are expected to receive funding for implementation, training, security and one year of technical support. The market survey is also intended to identify experienced suppliers and assess whether open source can strengthen digital autonomy and reduce IT costs.
