Polish universities in crosshairs of cybercriminals
Polish universities are facing growing cybersecurity threats, including ransomware, data breaches, and phishing attacks. Large research institutions such as the Warsaw University of Technology, University of Warsaw, AGH University of Krakow, and several major technical universities have invested heavily in network monitoring and threat detection, while smaller institutions often lack comparable funding and staff. Universities are attractive targets because they hold valuable research, intellectual property, and personal data. A shortage of qualified cybersecurity specialists remains a major weakness, compounded by complex IT environments serving thousands of users.
Risks increasingly extend to third-party software and cloud providers, making rapid security updates, risk assessments, and stronger oversight of external vendors essential to protecting university systems and data.
