President signs law supporting sustainable aviation
President Karol Nawrocki has signed legislation supporting sustainable aviation in Poland, including measures intended to improve conditions for domestic airlines under the EU Emissions Trading System. The law introduces financial compensation to cover part of the price difference between more expensive sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and conventional jet fuel. It also changes the allocation of emissions allowances, moving away from a system based largely on historical emissions, which had disadvantaged growing Polish carriers with relatively low past emissions.
The legislation implements EU rules for aviation under the EU ETS and supports lower-emission fuels and economic incentives. It also incorporates requirements linked to CORSIA, which covers emissions from international flights outside the EU.
