Project 8 from 11 bit studios completed, leading to layoffs of some staff

On December 17, game developer 11 bit studios officially announced the closure of Project 8, which began in 2018. The decision follows an earlier statement from December 11, citing market conditions and unresolved production challenges. The company estimates a financial write-off of PLN 48.4 million.
The project faced delays, rising budgets, and diminishing sales forecasts due to shifting market preferences. Project 8, initially designed for console players with a strong narrative focus, no longer aligns with current consumer trends. CEO Przemysław Marszał explained that extending the production timeline would jeopardize the project’s profitability.
Consequently, job layoffs are expected, and shares of 11 bit studios fell by 6.4% following the announcement.
