Publishers have built Polish platform for audiobooks
Eight Polish publishers have joined to create Novelist, a subscription platform for audiobooks and e-books, aiming to offer a local alternative to global services. The company says it focuses on curated recommendations from writers, musicians and other cultural figures rather than overwhelming users with huge catalogs or relying solely on algorithms. It also offers some new releases exclusively through its subscription and gives publishers access to listening data and royalty accounting. Novelist has begun adding e-reader support and expects competition to drive consolidation in Poland’s maturing audio market.
Artificial intelligence could make audiobook production cheaper, especially for niche titles, but a 2026 survey found 82% of Polish respondents prefer human narrators. Only 3% preferred AI voices.
