Record copper prices boost KGHM outlook
KGHM entered its second-quarter results announcement with exceptionally favorable commodity-market conditions after copper prices reached records during the period. Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expected the Polish copper and silver producer to report approximately PLN 12.59 billion in quarterly revenue, PLN 3.82 billion in adjusted EBITDA and PLN 1.62 billion in net profit. That would represent a substantial improvement from the same quarter last year, when KGHM generated PLN 8.6 billion in revenue and PLN 249 million in net profit.
Copper traded above USD 14,000 during May, while its average second-quarter price reached about USD 13,390. High silver prices provided another tailwind. Attention will now turn toward KGHM’s ambitious long-term investment strategy. The company plans at least PLN 32 billion of investment over the next five years as it develops new mining projects and considers potential acquisitions. Management is due to discuss the results Thursday.
