Shortage in aircraft maintenance and repair sector critical
Europe’s aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul sector is facing a growing labor shortage as airlines keep older aircraft in service because of delays in new deliveries. The average commercial aircraft is now 15.1 years old, while engine repair times have increased to 180 to 200 days. At the same time, the median age of licensed aircraft mechanics has reached 54, and Europe faces an annual shortage of about 4,000 certified technicians. Recruitment is also inefficient, with candidates discouraged by unclear requirements and career paths.
Poland is already a major European MRO hub, with highly skilled technicians and facilities capable of servicing Airbus, Boeing and Embraer aircraft. Airbus expects Europe to need around 120,000 additional aviation engineers and technicians by 2041.
