Ericsson, the Swedish technology group producing telecommunications software and hardware, has announced plans to lay off 1,600 employees in the coming weeks as part of cost-cutting measures aimed at improving competitiveness. The decision reflects mounting cost pressure and intense competition from South Korean and Chinese rivals. The layoffs will mainly affect Sweden, where the company has notified the public employment service and begun negotiations with trade unions. At the end of 2025, Ericsson employed nearly 90,000 people globally, having already reduced its workforce by about 10,000 over the past three years.

The company is also present in Poland, employing around 2,300 people across offices, R&D centers, and a 5G equipment factory, though the announced cuts primarily concern its Swedish operations.
