Tauron plans to repurpose sites at four coal power plants, in Jaworzno, Siersza, Łaziska and Łagisza, for new energy and industrial projects, reusing existing land and grid connections. In Jaworzno, it signed a letter of intent with the city to study a waste-to-energy plant that could produce electricity and heat. Construction has not been approved, and public support will be essential. Tauron lists eight potential projects in Jaworzno, including gas-fired generation, a new heat source, energy storage, hydrogen production and grid infrastructure.

Similar gas, storage, solar and waste-treatment projects are planned at the other sites. The company says coal units will remain in operation as needed until replacement capacity is built and system and market conditions allow their retirement.
