Transport industry has suggestions for dealing with shortage of drivers
Poland’s transport industry is proposing legal changes to address a structural shortage of truck drivers and lengthy procedures for hiring workers from outside the EU. Transport and Logistics Poland (TLP) wants the government either to make a shortage-occupation list mandatory or create a separate list for cross-border services, taking supply-chain security into account. The Labor Ministry says it is not currently working on such a regulation.
TLP also proposes a fast-track system for legalizing the employment and residence of foreign workers at large transport companies with at least 250 employees and strategic importance to the economy. The industry warns that delays leave trucks idle, contracts unfulfilled and Polish carriers increasingly vulnerable to foreign competition.
