UOKiK imposes fines up to PLN 37 mln on Zalando and Temu for erroneous discounts
Poland’s competition and consumer watchdog, UOKiK, has fined Zalando and Temu nearly PLN 37 million in total for misleading consumers about promotions. Zalando was fined PLN 30.95 million and Temu PLN 5.91 million. According to the authority, customers were not properly informed about discounts, including the legally required lowest price from the previous 30 days, and rebates were presented in a way that exaggerated their value.
UOKiK president Tomasz Chróstny stressed that transparent price information is a legal obligation under the Omnibus Directive, implemented in Poland in 2023. The authority found that both platforms inconsistently displayed or manipulated reference prices, creating a false impression of savings. The decisions are not final, though Temu corrected its practices during the proceedings.
