UOKiK intervenes in Apple’s App Tracking Transparency policy
Poland’s competition authority, UOKiK, ordered Apple entities to change their App Tracking Transparency practices, finding that the policy may have disadvantaged independent app developers. Third-party publishers had to obtain extra consent to use iPhone and iPad user data for personalized ads, while Apple’s own advertising activities followed different rules and were presented differently. Apple committed to using neutral, clearer consent notices across its own and third-party apps, removing language such as “tracking,” and allowing developers to link to detailed privacy information.
It will also establish an independent liaison officer to handle publishers’ complaints in Polish or English. The changes will apply to Polish account holders and users who set Poland as their device location, within two months after the decision becomes final.
