The average wage in the enterprise sector (employing more than nine people) in May this year increased by 10.1 percent y/y, while employment in enterprises increased by 2.7 percent y/y, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported.

In monthly terms, the average salary decreased by 2.9 percent and amounted to PLN 5,637.34. On the other hand, employment in enterprises increased by 0.3 percent monthly and amounted to 6.34 million people, stated in the announcement.

Employment growth was the result of, inter alia, admissions in units, increasing the number of employees to the level before the pandemic, as well as lower absenteeism due to the receipt of care and sickness benefits by employees.

"The decrease of the average gross monthly salary in the enterprise sector was caused, among others, by further payments in the previous month of quarterly, discretionary and incentive bonuses, as well as retirement benefits (which, apart from basic salaries, are also included in the remuneration components). Over the year (May 2021 to May 2020), the average monthly salary increased by 10.1 percent," the release reads.
