Warsaw ranks 2nd in European Capital of Innovation Awards

Lisbon clinched the top honor in the 2023 edition of European Capital of Innovation Awards (called iCapital awards), with Warsaw securing the second position. Swedish Linköping won in the Rising Innovative City category.
Warsaw was recognized for its innovative approach as the key to creating a good place to live for all, including its ‘active resident’ strategy, where Warsaw encourages people to achieve their personal and professional goals, ‘friendly space’ – Warsaw creates a social environment in which everyone can feel secure, and ‘open metropolis’ – Warsaw is open to the world and inspire others, European Innovation Council stated.
The European Commission announced the winners during a ceremony in Marseille, France, recognizing cities for their innovative concepts and solutions, particularly in supporting inclusive and diverse innovation ecosystems.
The event was part of the Aix Marseille Provence Metropole's innovation week, featuring discussions on future energy production, water resource protection, innovation leadership, and the creation of sustainable Mediterranean cities. The iCapital awards aim to highlight cities that effectively translate research results into societal well-being while fostering groundbreaking innovations.
