Water and heat meters for multi-family homes must be updated according to new law

By January 1, 2027, property owners in Poland must replace traditional water and heat meters with remote-reading devices, under an amended energy efficiency law. The goal is better consumption monitoring and energy efficiency. Failure to comply may result in fines up to PLN 10,000, or in severe cases, arrest or restricted freedom.
The cost per apartment starts at around PLN 300, often hidden in service fees. Owners with outdated systems or multiple water risers may face higher costs. Exceptions apply to properties already equipped with remote meters or where upgrades are economically unjustified. Benefits include accuracy, convenience, and early fault detection, though installation costs and potential device failures are drawbacks.
