Wind tunnel for air and space research opens in Warsaw's Okęcie district
A modernized T-3 wind tunnel has opened at Warsaw’s Okęcie airport following a PLN 105 mln upgrade financed through Poland’s National Recovery Plan. Operated by the Łukasiewicz Institute of Aviation, it is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. The tunnel will support research for aviation, space, defense, energy, transportation, construction, and automotive projects. Its first campaign will test an aeroelastic wing under the EU-funded EXAELIA project.
The facility can examine aircraft, rockets, vehicles, wind turbine blades, buildings, and other structures. Demand is already high, with projects booked about 18 months ahead, reducing the need for Polish companies to conduct advanced testing abroad.
