YES and climate education at EFNI – thanks to IKEA
The European Forum for New Ideas this year will celebrate its tenth anniversary. During the October conference "What tomorrow brings?", IKEA, one of the Main Partners of the Forum, will talk about actions taken as a part of the "YES to climate education" campaign.
Climate change is one of the most significant challenges of our time. That’s why, this year, IKEA has been involved in the campaign encouraging people to express their support for climate education in Polish schools.
UN Global Compact Network Poland, WWF Poland, Youth Climate Strike, Polish Ecological Club Mazovian Branch, IKEA Retail, and Onet.pl jointly launched a social impact campaign "YES! to climate education". The campaign has drawn public attention to the need to supplement the core curriculum in schools with reliable education on climate change and protection based on factual scientific data. Representatives of many of the campaign’s participants will also be present at EFNI X, including Szmo Kacprzak from the Youth Climate Strike, Mirosław Proppe, president of WWF Poland, Maciej Krzyczkowski, Head of Public Affairs at IKEA Retail Polska, and Karin Sköld, president of IKEA Retail Polska.
More than 60,000 signatures supported the campaign for a petition for climate education, which shows society's active and engaged attitude on this issue.
As the result, on August 17, 2021, the Minister of Education and Science and the Minister of Climate and Environment signed the letter of intent. As declared by the Ministers, climate education will be launched this year during hours with a class teacher.
