ZBP: 35% of companies not interested in making any investments

About 35% of Polish entrepreneurs are currently not interested in making any investments, according to research by the Polish Bank Association (ZBP) based on Central Statistical Office (GUS) data. Interest in R&D investments is extremely low. The decline in investment is structural and not caused by high interest rates; the share of enterprises planning investments has been falling steadily for nearly 20 years. Business investments collapsed in 2016 and continue to decline, with investment relative to GDP reaching a historic low of 5.78% in 2024.
Few businesses cite financing issues; only around 5% blame credit unavailability. Bank loans remain an unpopular financing method, partly due to the bank tax, which raises long-term loan costs.
