EU's Special Committee on Agriculture approved EC-proposed changes to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in response to farmers' protests. Led by Belgian Deputy PM David Clarinval, the move aims to address farmers' concerns amidst challenges. Changes include flexibility in CAP's environmental practices and exemptions for small farms. The reforms streamline procedures, reduce administrative burdens, and enhance environmental flexibility. The European Parliament is set to review the amendments urgently, with expectations of adoption by late April.
The revisions allow countries to adjust CAP plans twice annually and submit three additional change requests. Once approved, the regulation will come into effect by spring's end.
