A survey commissioned by Wiener shows that 65 percent of Poles practice sport. Every fourth respondent undertakes sporting activities 2-3 times a week, 12 percent exercise daily and the same percentage once a week. One in three Poles admitted that they do not do sport at all. Young people are the most active group – every third person aged 18-24 practices sport 2-3 times a week. With age, the percentage of people who do not take up any physical activity increases – in the case of those aged over 55, every second respondent admitted to doing so, in the case of those aged 45-54, it was 40 percent. One in four 35-44-year-olds and one in five 18-34-year-olds do not exercise.
According to the survey, 38 percent of Poles have suffered an injury while practicing sport. These happened more often to men (46 percent) than to women (31 percent). Injuries do not only have a negative impact on fitness, but also on finances. As many as 37 percent of those surveyed were unable to work as a result of an injury or had to cover unforeseen related expenses. Such situations were most common in the oldest group of respondents over the age of 55, where almost one in two (47 percent) admitted to being absent from work through injury or having unexpected expenses because of it.
