The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in climate action can help organizations achieve up to 45 percent of all their greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set out in the Paris Agreement. This is the result of the latest report issued by Capgemini, which analyzes the impact of artificial intelligence on the fight against climate. As shown by the data from the survey conducted among 800 directors in 400 organizations: it will not be possible without educational activities, awareness-raising, and competence improvement. Polish companies are not yet ready for this change – last year 28 Polish listed companies emitted 28.2 million metric tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and to date, only 1 percent of the WSE reports data on CO2 emissions (in 2021 it will already be a necessity).

Two thirds (67 percent) of the organizations surveyed have set themselves long-term business goals in the fight against climate change. Adaptation is also growing – more than half of the organizations (53 percent) in implementing AI goes beyond the framework of pilot programs. As a result of the use of artificial intelligence, the surveyed companies reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 12.9 percent and improved energy efficiency by 10.9 percent, and minimized the amount of waste by 11.7 percent in the past three years.

The potential positive impact of artificial intelligence is extremely significant. Organizations can expect a 16 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the next three to five years, thanks to AI-based climate action projects. The report showed that in all analyzed sectors, artificial intelligence can help to implement up to 45 percent of the requirements of the Paris Agreement until 2030.
